Map of Long-Term Drinking Water Advisories on Public Systems in First Nations Communities
Access to safe drinking water is essential. The Government of Canada is working with First Nations to eliminate long-term drinking water advisories (LT-DWAs) on public systems across the country.
On the map below, you’ll find both active and lifted advisories. A long-term drinking water advisory is one that has been in effect for more than 12 months. While progress has been made, there is still work to do.
Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) provides funding for public water systems that serve five or more household connections, as well as public facilities funded by the department. These water systems are managed and operated by the band, a band-owned utility, or a qualified third party under contract.
Ending long-term drinking water advisories requires continued partnership, investment, and a commitment to lasting solutions.
