Hello Davenport Friends and Neighbours,

Summer is here and I am so happy! The House Commons has adjourned but just before I left Ottawa I was asked to moderate a parliamentary panel discussion with the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who is on his farewell tour after serving 10 years as NATO Secretary General, and visited Canada for a day. It was a privilege to host a discussion with one of the world’s strongest leaders today. 15 pieces of legislation passed in 14 weeks, including the Sustainable Jobs Act (vital to transition to net zero by 2050) and the Foreign Interference Act (Bill C-70), which creates the long awaited Foreign Influence Transparency Registry. Here is more info on why Bill C-70 is important.

I am so excited to be home in Davenport until mid-September … and it’s not a minute too soon! I was able to attend a number of amazing graduations and local fun fairs over the last 10 days, and I am now busy helping my team with final details for our Canada Day celebrations.  All Davenport residents are invited to join me on Canada Day (Monday, July 1) for an ice cream social at Earlscourt Park from 3pm to 4:30pm. Team Julie will be located next to the pavilion.

Indigenous Women’s Shelter & Habitat Homes in Davenport: I was so happy to be at the opening of the first Indigenous Women’s Shelter in our riding; and to be at the announcement of 20 homes for families built by Habitat for Humanity. Both funded by our federal government. More info in the MP Report.

Update on TTC funding, St. Paul’s By-election: Many of you have written to inquire about funding for the 55 Line 2 subway trains. Our federal government has made historic investments into TTC transit infrastructure, including $500M for capacity improvements at Bloor-Yonge station, $4.0 billion to build the Ontario Line, $2.24 billion to build the Yonge North Subway Extension, and so much more!

The Toronto-St. Paul’s by-election took place this week and it was a loss for the federal Liberal government. I have been reflecting on the outcome and recognize that we have a lot of work to do. For me, this means doubling down on my efforts to listen to and serve our wonderful Davenport community.

Minister Guilbeault visits Dufferin Grove Organic Farmers’ Market:  It was so much fun to host a discussion between the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Steven Guilbeault, and the Davenport Youth Council at Dufferin Grove Park. And while there, we had a lot of fun visiting the farmers’ market.

Should Canada put a tax on all Chinese Electric Vehicles (EVs) sold in Canada? Between Q1 2023 and Q1 2024, there was a nearly 1300% increase (not a typo) in the value of Chinese EVs imported in Canada. On July 2, our government is launching a 30-day consultation on policy options to protect Canada’s auto workers and our growing national EV industry including: a surtax on imports of Chinese EVs; changes to the eligibility for the federal EV purchase rebate; and potentially broader investment restrictions in Canada. Share your opinion!

Good dental care is good health care. As of June 27, children under 18 and adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit Certificate can apply for the Canadian Dental Care Program.

Happy Canada Day! I hope you have a wonderful weekend celebrating friends, family, our amazing community and of course our wonderful country. And if you are up for some ice cream, come say hello to me and my incredible team at Earlscourt Park (next to the pavilion) on Monday July 1 between 3pm and 4:30pm!

As always, it is a true honour and pleasure to serve you.My very best regards,
Julie Dzerowicz
