Hello Davenport Friends and Neighbours –
We are into week two of the Israel-Hamas War which is having devastating consequences for Israel, the West Bank, and for Gaza. This global fight – that is taking far too many civilian lives and is creating more insecurity globally – is a fight for democracy and for our western values. I have an updated statement that outlines our federal support to Canadians impacted, that warns about misinformation and outlines what this fight is about. (link to web)
As the Chair of Canada NATO, I led a parliamentary delegation to the Annual Session in Copenhagen where I gave a paper on Food Insecurity & Conflict. We also condemned the terrorist organisation Hamas’s attack on Israel and reaffirmed our need to continue to support Ukraine for as long as it takes.
Back in Canada, October is Latin American Heritage month and it gave me great pleasure to stand in the House of Commons and make a statement on the extraordinary contributions of the Hispanic and Latin American communities to our great nation. I also gave a speech on our federal government debt, deficit and housing in response to a conservative opposition day motion. On the Finance Committee, it’s critical to ensure that artists’ voices are heard and I was pleased to have a discussion with members of ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists). As a champion for the sector, I always ensure that we have strong voices during our pre budget consultations.
I’ve attended many meetings and events that reflected the priorities and interests of Davenport. Click on this week’s Bi-Weekly Update to see my full MP Report.
At your doors this week you should have received my Health Care update where I outline the federal government’s $198 billion investment in Canada’s health care system.
Finally, on October 19 I celebrated my 8th year anniversary as your Member of Parliament. Thank you for the honour of representing our community in the House of Commons. As I begin my 9th year, I am energized and excited as ever to continue to work hard every day to build a community and a country that we are all proud to call our home.
Have a wonderful weekend. As always, it is a true privilege to serve you.
My best regards,
Julie Dzerowicz
