Davenport friends & neighbours:

It was amazing to be back in the Davenport community for a whole week!

What a full and wonderful week—visiting classrooms, touring new community organizations, sharing tea with seniors across the riding, meeting with stakeholders, hosting our Davenport Budget 2025 Town Hall, and honoring our veterans at the Remembrance Day ceremony. Check out my MP report for highlights, though fair warning: it only captures the moments I remembered to photograph!😀

What a joy to spend time with two grade 5 classes and three grade 10 classes this week, talking about civics. Their questions were thoughtful, their energy was infectious, and I left inspired

Thanks to all who joined in the Remembrance Day Sunrise Ceremony at Prospect Cemetery – it’s one of my favourite events and one of the most meaningful.  Deeply grateful to Swansea Legion  266-46 for organising this every year.

During the week, I spoke to many constituents about federal Budget 2025 and was happy to do a presentation on key aspects of the 406-page budget at the Davenport Budget 2025 Townhall.

Here are key highlights:

Context is everything. The Budget is Canada’s plan on how we are dealing with a world that is more divided and dangerous and under economic attack by the US  — which is expected to cost us $50 billion and 1.8% of our GDP.

Supporting Canadian Businesses and creating a strong Canadian economy open to investment.. But as our PM has said: we can give ourselves more than anyone can take away.  Our budget is about us taking charge of our destiny — strengthening our own economy, supporting our businesses and workers, and creating the conditions to attack $1 trillion in investments to help us build our economy and protect our sovereignty. The productivity super-deduction is a series of measures that will turbocharge support for Canadian businesses wanting to invest in their business and or expand/grow.  Two key measures are the ability to write off any capital investment and the lowering of the marginal tax rate (13.2%) making Canada the most tax competitive jurisdiction for new business investment in the G7

We are spending less and investing more. Our $78 billion deficit is focused on capital investments while we dramatically reduce our operating expenditures.  With a competitive business tax environment, a triple AAA rating, an educated workforce and attractive investment opportunities — Canada will be a beautiful place for global capital to invest.

Affordability is always top of mind – and so it was important for us to protect our cherished social programs.  These programs help us to also tackle income inequality and makes us a more resilient population and country.

You can find information on how we are supporting youth and jobs; seniors; our new strategy for climate action and our plan to protect our country and sovereignty.

This week, Prime Minister Carney unveiled the second wave of nation-building projects, doubling down on Canada’s ambition to become an energy superpower.

I’m looking forward to this weekend’s São Martinho celebrations across our Portuguese community—a beautiful fall tradition honoring the new harvest with roasted chestnuts and freshly released wine.

Have a wonderful weekend, Davenport.  As always, it is a true honour and pleasure to serve you!

With gratitude and warm regards,Julie Dzerowicz
