Hello Davenport friends and neighbours!

I know that this letter has arrived in your inbox later than usual, but it arrives nevertheless (as it usually does).

I want to begin by saying that it is so good to be back. I slipped away for a quick vacation, and I have to tell you: the very best part of coming home was diving straight back into our community. This past week I have been out meeting with so many of you, and I want to give you a quick walk through it all (more in the MP Report).

I sat down with climate activists and with child care advocates, two groups doing vital work in our riding. I also met with Covenant House and with constituents who have raised concerns about a new City youth shelter proposed here in Davenport, and I want you to know I am listening carefully to every side of that conversation.

The Dufferin Grove Farmers Market opened for the season, and what a joy it was to head over, say hello to Manager of the Market, Nicole Jacobs , and see so many neighbours out and about, baskets in hand. There is nothing quite like that first market of the year.

I also may have jumped the gun just a little! Doors Open Toronto officially starts tomorrow, but I snuck in an early peek at the Giaimo architectural firm on Sterling Avenue. For those who haven’t been before, Doors Open is a wonderful weekend where buildings all across the city, (places we walk past and have always been curious about), throw open their doors to the public, completely free. Davenport is full of these hidden gems, and I cannot encourage you enough to get out and explore this weekend. Here is the link. And it is free, so do go!

HOUSING ANNOUNCEMENT IN DAVENPORT: And it was amazing to also speak at the official groundbreaking for 72 Perth. As I said standing on that corner: not so long ago this was a vacant, contaminated industrial site that most people walked past without a second look, and today we are breaking ground on 255 new homes. What makes me proudest is that one in five of those homes, 51 suites, will be designated affordable for the next 40 years, and they will be fully integrated throughout the building, with the same finishes, the same amenities, and the same quality of design as every other suite. As I said that morning, affordable should never mean lesser.

I will say it plainly: as Chair of the Toronto Liberal Caucus, I work alongside every one of our federal members from this city, and housing is one of our very top priorities. We intend to be Toronto’s biggest champions at the federal table, and projects like 72 Perth are exactly why.

Federal programs I want you to know about:

New Horizons for Seniors Program: applications open June 2. If your organization runs community-based projects for seniors, mark your calendar. The New Horizons for Seniors Program launches its 2026 call for proposals on June 2, with a six-week window, and applications are due July 14, 2026. This year brings some welcome updates: the maximum grant has been raised to $50,000 (with a $25,000 cap on capital costs), a valid Canada Revenue Agency Business Number is now required, and organizations whose primary mandate focuses on seniors may receive additional consideration. You can learn more and find the application guidelines by searching “New Horizons for Seniors Program,” and applications are submitted through the Grants and Contributions Online Services (GCOS) portal, so just search those words to register. A quick note: if you would like a letter of support from my office, please send your request at least one to two weeks before your deadline so we have time to review and process it properly.

Canada Summer Jobs: roughly 300 positions available right here in Davenport. This is one of my favourite programs every year. Canada Summer Jobs provides wage subsidies so not-for-profits, public sector employers, and small businesses (50 or fewer full-time staff) can offer quality summer work to young people aged 15 to 30. For many youth, it is a first job, a real chance to build skills and explore what they might want to do with their future, in fields from recreation and food service to construction, tech, and environmental work. The hiring period runs to July 20, with jobs wrapping up by August 29, and there are roughly 300 positions available right here in Davenport. Young people, keep checking back as new postings go up. To apply, visit canada.ca/canadasummerjobs.

It is a true honour and pleasure to serve you, Davenport. Have a safe and wonderful weekend.
